A Piece of Peace

Photography editorial

About

A Piece of Peace is a documentary photo project about Ukrainian teenagers displaced by the war. Through conversations and personal belongings, it explores the meaning of “home” when returning is no longer possible, and how small objects can carry memory, safety, and identity.

In October 2025, the project was published in the Italian magazine Artein.

People

Each spread introduces one Ukrainian teenager through their personal experience of war: how it began, what changed, and how they left Ukraine.

Their story is paired with an object they could not leave behind. Together, the text and object create a portrait of memory, displacement, and the need to hold onto something familiar.

Belongings

The belongings reveal what words sometimes cannot: comfort, fear, attachment, and the need to keep something familiar close. Many of these objects are toys, which made me think of Ukrainians of my generation as the Teddy Bear Generation.
